Reading is one skill that is very important as it allows for a new avenue of information that they can learn from, and since most schools depend on reading materials such as books and handouts, this highlights the need to develop the ability to comprehend while reading even more. But the real question is “What is reading” and what does it really mean to read? It’s not whether a person can read or not, but is more importantly about whether they are capable of comprehending what they are reading. A lot of information gets processed whenever the average person starts to scan lines of words such as the meaning, syllabication, pronunciation and much more. It is amazing how fast some people are able to read and still be able to absorb and comprehend what they are reading.
Many would agree that practicing reading at a fast pace is essential, especially for students who would greatly benefit from it while studying. The Average Reading Speed may be adequate, but if one truly wants to excel, speed-reading should be developed. Building up one’s vocabulary can also do wonders for one’s reading skills, which would also translate to a much better writing ability as well.
